The Marked – Homelessness, Health, and Theatre: Performance and Symposium – Thursday 25 May 2017
25th May 2017 @ 4:00 pm - 8:00 pmFree
Theatre Témoin, QMUL, and Pathway would like to warmly invite artists, researchers, clients, experts by experience, healthcare professionals and support providers to join the conversation at an evening of performance discussion around homelessness, health, and theatre. The event will include talks by speakers from the arts, psychiatry, health, and homeless sectors; an hour-long performance of 5* sell-out production The Marked; a reception; and a post-show panel.
The Marked uses mask, puppetry and physical theatre to tell the story of a young man sleeping rough while battling demons of his past. Working with community consultants, The Marked has been developed over a period of two years in dialogue and collaboration with St Mungo’s Recovery College and Cardboard Citizens using mask construction and performance workshops.
Entry to the symposium and performance are free; places are limited and allocated on a first-come, first serve basis. We welcome client groups from homeless support organisations and hostels. There will also be a mask performance workshop running in parallel to academic talks for those who would prefer to engage in another way.
Note that there will be a BSL interpretation of the theatre performance (5pm – 6pm), and an access voluteer to assist with accessing other parts of the event.
“The Marked” – Homelessness, Health, and Theatre: Performance and Symposium is made possible by the generous support of Arts Council England and The Wellcome Trust.
